dealing with menstrual cycle issues
Irregular, painful, short, long, heavy: if any of these words are ones you would use to describe your menstrual cycle, then a Chinese Medicine practitioner may be able to help. Most women think that a period is something that has to be ‘suffered’ through but, contrary to popular belief, a healthy menstrual cycle is one that is pain-free. In this article, Dr. Cheryl Lee explains how TCM and acupuncture can you regulate your menstrual cycle by reducing pain and regulating flow.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture can be used to help regulate menstrual cycles and even eliminate the discomforts that can be associated with them. While many women commonly experience adverse symptoms before and during their period, that does not mean it is normal or that women should have to ‘endure’ their cycle month after month. In fact, a healthy period should come and go with no pain or symptoms at all.

Menstrual cycle health is classified by a variety of different diagnoses in TCM. Often the liver, spleen, and kidneys play a major role as does the Ren, Chong, and Dai meridians. More importantly, factors like heat, cold, and stagnation can have a significant impact on how many or few symptoms are experienced during the monthly cycle.

Factors that cause menstrual dysfunction can include:

  • Horomone imbalances
  • Circulation imbalances
  • Stress
  • Poor diet and lifestyle habits

acupuncture meridians mannequinChinese Medicine and Acupuncture work to regulate hormonal function as well as improve circulatory function to the reproductive organs. Having a regular painless cycle is important for good quality of life, sexual health, and high-functioning fertility. All women, from teenage years to menopause, are capable of having a normal healthy period.
